Simplicity

I was watching a travel special on Japan and realized what I appreciated the most about the Japanese aesthetic: simplicity. Whether it’s the simplicity of a bowl of soba noodles from a mom and pop noodle shop in Osaka that can barely hold 5 people, the balance of a Japanese chef’s knife, or ikebana (the art of Japanese flower arrangement) I’ve learned to appreciate both the simplicity and asymmetry of life. I went from being a gal who reveled in clutter and “filled space” to one who adores simplicity in my living space, food, and life. Perhaps that is why Hawai’i feels so much like home. You have a wonderful combination of Japanese food and culture, Hawaiian aloha, and the lush, elegant simplicity of nature outside your door.
